Problema Solution

two angles are supplementary. one angle is 4 degrees less than three times the other. find the measures of the angles.

Answer provided by our tutors

Two angles are supplementary if they add up to 180 degrees.

Lets denote the first angle with 'a' and the second with 'b' then we have:

a + b = 180

a = 3b - 4

That is

3b - 4 + b = 180

4b = 184

b = 184/4

b = 46 degrees

a = 180 - b

a = 180 - 46

a = 134 degrees
