Problema Solution
Suppose an auto racer won a 400 mile race with a time 1:45:47.6173. At one point the racer was 30 miles closer to finish than the start. How far had racer gone at that point. How far from the start was the racer?

we have to assume here that 400 miles is a long-distance race and not laps around a track, or that the total distance is being measured in an additive fashion
we note that since this problem asks about distance, the time the race was won in is of no interest when solving the problem
let 'x' represent the racer's position in miles at the time of interest, the racer's distance from the start is then 'x' and the racer's distance from the finish is '400-x'
(400-x)+30 = x
2x = 430
x = 430/2 = 215
the racer was 215 miles from the start
