Problema Solution

3. You recently started the paperwork to purchase your new home, and you were just notified that you can move into the house in 2 weeks. You decide to hire a moving company, but are unsure which company to choose. You search online and are interested in contacting two companies, Heavy Lifters and Quick Move, to discuss their rates. Heavy Lifting charges an $60 fee plus $45 per hour. Quick Move charges $65 per hour with no additional fees.

a) Which mover provides a better deal for 2 hours of work? How did you arrive at your answer?

b) Which mover provides a better deal for 15 hours of work? How did you arrive at your answer?

c) For what values h (hours) does Quick Move offer the better deal? Express your answer as an inequality. Explain how you reached your answer.

a) since you are only going to need 2 hours, you can calculate the price:

Heavy Lifting charge: 80 fee + (hourly charge times 2 hours)

80 + 2(35) = 80 + 70 = $150

Quick Move charge: Hourly Charge times 2 hours

55 x 2 = $110

So Quick Move is a better deal for 2 hours becuase they cost less.

b)Heavy Lifting charge: 80 fee + (hourly charge times 15 hours)

80 + 15(35) = 80 + 525 = $605

Quick Move charge: Hourly Charge times 15 hours

55 x 15 = $825

so Heavy lifting is better for 15 hours coz it costs less

c)so the total charge of Quick Move should be less than the total charge of Heavy Lifting

h will represent the number of hours in this inequality

Charge for Quick Move < Charge for Heavy Lifting

55h < 80 + 35h

55h - 35h < 80

20h < 80

h < 4
