Problema Solution
marco reads at an average rate of 30 pages per hour, while mendy reads at at an average of 40 pages per hour. if marcos starts reading a novel at 4 : 30 PM, and mindy begins reading the same novel at 5 :20 Pm, at what time they will read the same page?
Answer provided by our tutors
5:20 PM - 4:30 PM = 50 minutes
50 minutes = 50/60 hours
let 't' represent the amount of time Mindy is reading in hours, then 't+50/60' represents the time in hours that Marco is reading
distance = speed * time
they both read the same number of pages ("distance"), so we set their speed*time expressions equal to each other
30(t+50/60) = 40t
solving for 't' we have t=5/2 = 2 1/2
in 2 1/2 hours they will read the same page
