the length of a rectangular picture not including the frame, is 6 cm. more than its width. the area of the frame, 2 1/2 cm. wide on all sides, is 155 square cm. what are the dimensions of the picture?

Let
'l' = the length of the picture not including the frame
'w' = the width of the picture not including the frame
'f' = 2 1/2 cm = 5/2 cm the wide of the frame on all sides
l = w + 6 (length is 6 cm more then width)
The area of the frame is
(l + 2*(5/2))*(w+2*(5/2)) - lw = 155
(l + 5)*(w + 5) - lw = 155
5l + 5w + 25 = 155
l + w = 65
By solving the system of equations
l - w = 6
l + w = 65
we get the answers
l = 32.5 cm is the length of the picture
w = 29.5 cm is the width of the picture
