The Farmer needs 4 days to finish the job ; in 1 days he will finish 1/4 of the job
The hired hand needs 6 days to finish the job ; in 1 days they will finish 1/6 of the job
Let 'x' be the time they need to finish the whole job while working together, then in 1 day they will finish 1/x of the job thus we have
1/4 + 1/6 = 1/x
6x + 4x = 24
10x = 24
x = 2.4 hours (time to do the job together)
