Let
'l' = the length of the swimming pool
'w' = the width of the swimming pool
A = w*l the area of the rectangular swimming pool.
P = 2(w+l) the perimeter of the pool
2*(l+w) = 34
l = 2 + 2*w
By solving this system of equations we find
l = 12 ft
w = 5 ft
A = 12*5 = 60 ft^2
the length is 12 ft.
the width is 5 ft.
the area is 60 ft^2.
