Premium: gallons

Regular: gallons

b. If the profit on regular gas is $0.18 per gallon and on premium is $0.20 per gallon, what was the station's total profit?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

x = gallons regular sold for $2.30 a gallon

y = gallons premium sold for $2.55 a gallon

x*2.30 + y*2.55 = 10957

x = y + 420

a. By solving the system of equations we find the solutions

Premium: 2060 gallons

Regular: 2480 gallons

b. total profit = regular gas profit + premium gas profit

0.18*x + 0.20*y = 0.18*2480 + 0.20*2060 = $858.4 total profit
