A retailer sells rice A at $32 per kilo and rice B at $36 per kilo. He decided to mix the two types of rice in order to have 50 kilos that can be sold at $33 a kilo. How many kilos of each type or rice should be used?

Let
x = weight (in kg) of rice A
y = weight (in kg) of rice B
x + y = 50
cost of x kilograms of rice A + cost of y kilograms of rice B = price of the mix
32*x + 36*y = 33*50
By solving the system
x + y = 50
32*x + 36*y = 33*50
we find
x = 37.5 kg
y = 12.5 kg
The retailer should use 37.5 kg of the rice A and 12.5 kg of the rice B.
