Problema Solution

john rode his bike down the street 10 miles per hour. two hours later yasmine started at the same place and rode her bike towards him at 15 miles per hour. from the movement yasmine started on her bike , how long did it take her to catch up to john?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

v1 = 10 mph the speed of John and

t = the time that John road his bike till the moment Yasmine caught him

v2 = 15 mph the speed of Yasmine

Since Yasmine started 2 hours later her time will be: the time of John - 2 hours that is t - 2

They both made the same distance so we have

t*v1 = (t-2)*v2

10*t = (t-2)*15

t = 6 hours

Yasmine needed 6 hours to catch up on John.
