Problema Solution
two airplanes fly toward each other from points 900 miles apart, at the rates, per hour, of 300 miles and 250 miles. when will they meet if they start at the same instant?
Answer provided by our tutors
lel
t = the time they need to fly
d = 900 miles the distance between the planes at the beginning
v1 = 300 mph the speed of the first plane
v2 = 250 mph the speed of the second plant
after t time the sum of the distances of the planes = the distance at the beginning
since v = d/t => d = v*t
v1*t + v2*t = d
300t + 250t = 900
550t = 900 divide both sides by 50
11t = 18
t = 18/11 = 1 7/11 hours = 1 hour 38 min 11 sec approximately
the planes will meet after 1 hour 38 min 11 sec approximately.
