the total mixture weights 20 lbs thus we can write


x + y = 20


the cost of x lbs of the $8 chocolate + the cost of y lbs of the $3 chocolate = 20 lbs chocolate by the price of $5 per pound


8*x + 3*y = 5*20


by solving the system of equations


x + y = 20

8*x + 3*y = 5*20


we find


x = 8 lbs


y = 12 lbs
