Problema Solution
Five times the greatest of three consecutive even integers is equal to twice the sum of the other two integers minus 16. What are the integers?
Answer provided by our tutors
Even number is an integer of the form n=2k , where k is an integer and k>0.
The three consecutive even integers will be
2x - 2, 2x, 2x + 2 where x is integer
5*(2x + 2) = 2*(2x - 2 + 2x) - 16
10x + 10 = 8x - 4 - 16
2x = -30
x = -15
the three consecutive even integers will be
2(-15) - 2 = - 32
2(-15) = - 30
2(-15) + 2 = - 28
the three consecutive even integers are -32, - 30 and -28.
