Problema Solution

find four consecutive even integers so that the sum of the first three is 2 more than twice the fourth

Answer provided by our tutors

the four consecutive integers can be written as

2k - 2, 2k, 2k+2 and 2k + 4, where k is integer

the sum of the first three is 2 more than twice the fourth

2k - 2 + 2k + 2k + 2 = 2*(2k + 4) + 2

6k = 4k + 10

2k = 10

k = 5

2k - 2 = 2*5 - 2 = 8

The four consecutive even integers are 8, 10, 12 and 14.
