Problema Solution

Write an expression that gives a quadratic function that has roots of 17 and P, and whose quadratic coefficient is one.

Answer provided by our tutors

The quadratic function

f(x) = ax^2 + b*x + c

can be written in factored from

f(x) = a*(x - x1 )*( x - x2 ) where x1 and x2 are the roots of the quadratic equation.

in our case a = 1, x1 =17 , x2 = P so we have

f(x) = 1*(x - 17 )*( x - P)

f(x) = x^2 - P*x - 17*x + 17*P

f(x) = x^2 - (17 + P)*x + 17*P
