Problema Solution

How many liters of each 25% and 10% solution must be combined to produce 20 liters of 15% acid solution?

Answer provided by our tutors

let

x = the liters of the 25% solution

y = the liters of the 10% solution

25% of x + 10% of y = 15% of 20 liters

x + y = 20

0.25*x + 0.10*y = 0.15*20

by solving the system we find

x = 20/3 = 6 2/3 liters

y = 40/3 = 13 1/3 liters

we need 6 2/3 liters of the 15% and 13 1/3 liters of the 10% solution.
