Problema Solution

Identify what your variables represent. Write two equations and solve the system>

After a snow advisory in January, Fleet Farm had a run on snow shovels. They had the Snowpusher on sale for $15.95 and the lighter weight Snowdozer on sale for $7.95. By the end of one week, the entire inventory of 415 shovels had been sold out and the receipts for them totaled $4779.25. how many of each type did they sell?

Variables represent: 1____________________ 2.__________________

Equations: 1.___________________________ 2. _____________________

Solution: Snowpusher____________________ Snowdozer________________

Answer provided by our tutors

Let x and y be the two variables (No other variables are defined in the question). Let x represents the number of Snowpushers and let y represent the number of Snowdozers.

Equation 1: x+y = 415.

Equation 2: 15.95x + 7.95y = 4779.25.

From equation (1): x = 415 - y.

Substitute this in the equation (2): 15.95 (415-y) + 7.95y = 4779.25.

Or, 6619.25 - 15.95y + 7.95 y =4779.25.

Or, 8y = 1840.

Or y = 230.

Therefore, x = 415-230 = 185.

Solution: Snowpusher : 185.

Snowdozer : 230.
