Joan is making fudge to give for Christmas presents to each of the 7people in her office. She made 12lbs. 3 oz. Of fudge. How much fudge should she put in each of the 7 boxes?

For this question, we will assume that each person will get an equal amount of fudge and that all of the fudge will be given away with no extra. We will also re-write 12lbs 3oz as (12*16+3)oz because 1lb=16oz. Therefore, we can write:


Amount of fudge per box=(total amount of fudge)/(total number of people)

Amount of fudge per box=(195oz)/7

Amount of fudge per box=27.857 oz per box


It is important to note that 195 cannot be evenly divided by 7 therefore some fudge may be left over. It would probably be best to put 27.5 oz per box for ease of packaging.
