An aquarium holding african cichlids is 5 inches higher then it is wide. it's length is 33 inches,and its volume is 4950 cubic inches what are the height and width of the aquarium?
V=lbh.
length l=33 in.
height h=b+5.
By substituing in equation for volume
33*b*(b+5)=4950.
b(b+5)=150.
b^2+5b-150=0.
By factorisation
(b-10)(b+15)=0.
b=10,-15.
take b=10 in.
width b =10 in,
Height h=b+5 =10+5 =15 in.
