You may enter logarithmic expressions via a button on the Advanced toolbar; this button has a drop-down menu that allows you to selected "Log", "Ln", "sin", "cos" and "tan". An excellent reference is the flash demo titled "Entering logarithmic expressions", available through the drop-down menu "Help->Tutors".
Once the toolbar button is pressed, the log symbol will appear at the cursor location ("ln" is for "natural log", which means "log, base e" and "log" defaults to "log, base 10"). To change the base of the log, use the "down arrow" key or a click of the mouse to position the cursor between "log" and the opening parenthesis. This allows you to work with logarithms of arbitrary bases - simply type the expression itself inside of the parentheses.
