Problema Solution

I need help solving word problems, but we cant use algebra!

Mickey has 1/3 the number of books that Minnie does. If they had 1 less book between them, they would have 27 books. The question, of course, is how many books each has.

Answer provided by our tutors

If they had 1 less book between them, they would have 27 books thus all together they have 27 + 1 = 28 books

Mickey has 1/3 the number of books that Minnie does this means that Minnie has 3 times more books then Mickey.

thus one part of the books has Mickey and 3 parts of the books has Minnie - all together there are 4 parts

28 : 4 = 7 and

28 = 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 7 + (7 + 7 + 7)

we can conclude that Mickey has 7 books and Minnie has 3*7 = 21 books.
