since speed = distance/time => distance = speed*time


the distance of the first plane + the distance of the second plane = 2375 mi (the total distance at the start)


v*t + (v + 110)t = 2375


v*2.5 + (v + 110)2.5 = 2375


by solving we find


v = 420 mph
