Problema Solution
Janet drove 75 miles per hour on the way to vist her parents. On the way back to school, she drove 60 miles per hour and it took her 1 hour more than it did to drive to her parents home. How far is Janet's school from her parents home?
Answer provided by our tutors
let
d = the distance from Janet's school to her parents home
v1 = 70 mph
t = the time of the travel from her parents to school
v2 = 60 mph
t + 1 = the time of the travel from school to her parents
since speed = distance/time => distance = speed*time
d = v1*t
d = 70t divide both sides by 70
t = d/70 and plug into
d = v2*(t + 1)
v2(d/70 + 1) = d
60(d/70 + 1) = d
by solving we find
d = 420 miles
