Problema Solution
The perimeter of a rectangle is at least 62 cm. If the length is 7 cm more than twice the width, what is the smallest possible value for the length?
Answer provided by our tutors
let
l = the length of the rectangle
w = the width of the rectangle
the perimeter of a rectangle is at least 62 cm
2(l + w) => 62 divde both sides by 2
l + w => 31
the length is 7 cm more than twice the width
l = 7 + 2w
7 + 2w = l
w = (1/2)(l - 7)
plug w = (1/2)(l - 7) into the inequality l + w <= 31
l + (1/2)(l - 7) => 31
by solving we find
l => 23
