Problema Solution

A geodesic dome is composed of two different types of triangular panels. One of these is an isosceles triangle. In one geodesic dome, the measure of hte third angle is 58.5 degrees more than the measure of either of the two angles. Find the measure of the three angles.

Answer provided by our tutors

Every isosceles triangle has two equal angles, and the sum of all the angles is 180 degrees.

Suppose one of the equal angles is x.

The measure of the third angle is 58.5 degrees more than the measure of either of the two angles: x + 58.5

x + x + (x + 58.5) = 180

by solving we find

x = 40.5 degrees

x + 58.5 = 40.5 + 58.5 = 99 degrees

The measure of the two equal angles is 40.5 degrees and the measure of the third angle is 99 degrees.
