Problema Solution

If a 5m^3 of gas at atomsphere is compressed until its volume 1.20 m^3. Calculate the percentage increase in pressure of the gas but the tempreature is not change

Answer provided by our tutors

let

V1 = 5 m^3 the initial volume

P1 = the initial pressure

V2 = 1.20 m^3 compressed volume

P2 = the pressure when the volume is V2

using Boyle's Law: The Pressure-Volume Law we have

P1*V1 = P2*V2

5P1 = 1.20P2 divide both sides by 1.20P1

P2/P1 = 5/1.20

the percentage increase in pressure of the gas is

(P2 - P1)/P1 = (P2/P1) - 1 = 5/1.20 - 1 = 19/6 = 3.167 or 316.7%

the percentage increase in pressure of the gas is 316.7% of the initial pressure.
