Problema Solution
A biologist has two brine solutions, one containing 5% salt and another containing 10% salt. How many milliliter a if each solution should he mix to obtain 1 liter of a solution that contains 7% salt?
Answer provided by our tutors
1 liter = 1000 milliliters
let
x = ml of the 5% solution
y = ml of the 10% solution
the new mix is 1 liter of solution that contains 7% salt
x + y = 1000
0.05x + 0.10y = 0.07*1000
by solving the system of equations
x + y = 1000
0.05x + 0.10y = 0.07*1000
we find
x = 600 ml
y = 400 ml
