Problema Solution
Airplane A travels 2800 km at a certain speed. Plane B travels 2000 km at a speed 50 km/h faster than plan A in 3 hrs less time. Find the speed of each plane.
The speed of plane A is ______ km/hr.
The speed of plane B is _______ km/hr.
Answer provided by our tutors
let
d1 = 2800 km the distance plane A flies
d2 = 2000 km the distance plane B flies
v = the speed of plane A, v>0
v + 50 = the speed of plane B
t = the time of plane A
t - 3 = the time of plane B
since distance = speed*time
d1 = v*t
v*t = 2800 divid eboth sides by v
t = 2800/v
d2 = (v + 50)(t - 3)
(v + 50)(t - 3) = 2000
plug t = 2800/v into the last equation
(v + 50)(2800/v - 3) = 2000
by solving we find
v = 350 km/hr

v + 50 = 350 + 50 = 400 km/hr
The speed of plane A is 350 km/hr.
The speed of plane B is 400 km/hr.
