If Tree A grows at a rate of 8 inches per year and Tree B grows at a rate of 6 inches per year, after how many more years will Tree A be as tall as Tree B?

tree A was 24 inches tall and grows at a rate of 8 inches per year thus after x years will be
24 + 8x inches tall
tree B was 40 inches tall and grows at a rate of 6 inches per year thus after x years will be
40 + 6x inches tall
now we have the equation
24 + 8x = 40 + 6x
by solving we find
x = 8 years
