Problema Solution

Sara counted all the ears, eyes, paws, and tails on all the tigers in the zoo. The total she got is the same as the number of all the lions' paws in the zoo. The total number of lions and tigers in the zoo must be a multiple of _________.

Answer provided by our tutors

We will assume that all the tigers and lions are in perfect health

each tiger has 2 ears, 2 eyes, 4 paws and 1 tail of a total of 2 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 9

each lion has 4 paws

let l = the number of lions and t = the number of tigers

9t = 4l

if one side of the equation is dividable by 9 then the other side must be also dividable by 9.

the same goes for 4, that is why we can say:

t must be a multiple of 4

l must be a multiple of 9
