Problema Solution
Write an equation that can be used to solve this problem. Jake’s school bus averages 28 mi/h, including stops. One day Jake left his coat at home. His mom left home 15 minutes (0.25h) after Jake and traveled an average speed of 42 mi/h. How long did it take Jake’s mom to catch the bus?
Answer provided by our tutors
let t = the time Jake's mom needed to catch the bus
the bus travels 0.25h longer then Jake's mum or: t + 0.25
since speed = distance/time follows distance = speed*time
28*(t + 0.25) = t*48
by solving we find
t = 0.35 h
t = 0.35*60 = 21 min
