The current in a bayou is 4 miles per hour. A boat travels 48 miles upstream in the same amount of time it takes to travel 72 miles down stream. Find the speed of the boat in still water.

Let Speed of boat = x
Speed of boat againsts ths current = x - 4
speed of boat in the directiaon of current = x + 4
Distance upstrea/againsts direction = 48 miles
Distance downstrea/in direction of current = 72 hours
time taken for both same
=> 48/(x-4) = 72 /(x+4) => 2/(x-4) = 3/(x+4) => 2x + 8 = 3x - 12 => x = 20
