After an exam, Jon and Syed discussed their answers to the following exam questions. Which of the following is an ordered-paired solution to the equation 2x-2y=4, (3,5) or (5,3)? Jon said the answer was (5,3) and Syed stated that (3,5) is the correct answer. Who is right? Why?

For (x, y) = (5,3) that is x = 5 and y = 3
2*5 - 2*3 = 10 - 6 = 4
we conclude that (5,3) is solution to 2x-2y=4.
For (x, y) = (3, 5) that is x = 3 and y = 5:
2*3 - 2*5 = 6 - 10 = -4 <> 4
we conclude that (5,3) is not solution to 2x-2y=4.
