Problema Solution

Sue has creme-filled chocolates that sell for 4$3.00 per pound, chocolate-covered nuts that sell for $2.70 per pound, and chocolate-covered raisens that sell for $2.25 per pound. She wants to have twice as many raisens as nuts in the mixture. Find how many pounds of each she should use to make 45 pounds worth $2.80 per pound.

Answer provided by our tutors

Selling price of creme filled chocolates = $3

Selling price of chocolate-covered nuts = $2.70

Selling price of chocolate-covered raisens = $2.25

Let amount of nuts = x

amount of raisens = 2x

amount of creme filled chocoloates = y

x+y+2x = 45 => 3x + y = 45

3y+2.70x+2.25*2x = 45*2.80

multiplying first by there and then subtracting second from it gives

9x - 7.2x = 9 => 1.8x = 9=> x = 5

=> Amount of Raisens = 10

Amount of nuts = 5

Amount of creme-filled chocolates = 30
