In my office, I have 'x' two drawer filing cabinets and 'y' three drawer filing cabinets. Each drawer of a two drawer filing cabinet holds 60 files. Each drawer of a three drawer filing cabinets holds 50 files. I have a total of 840 files and akll my filing cabinets are full
a)Show that 4x+5y=28
b)I have 2 more three filing cabinets than the two drawer filing cabinets in my office. Work out the number of each type of filing cabinet

the total number of files in the 2 drawer cabinet is: 2*60 = 120
the total number of files in the 3 drawer cabinet is: 3*50 = 150
2*60x + 3*50y = 840
120x + 150y = 840 divide both sides by 30
4x + 5y = 28
I have 2 more three filing cabinets than the two drawer filing cabinets in my office
y = 2 + x
by solving the system of equations
4x + 5y = 28
y = 2 + x
we find
x = 2 two drawer cabinets
y = 4 three drawer cabinets
