Problema Solution
A diesel train left Washington and traveled south. One hour later a cattle train left traveling at 60 km/h in an effort to catch up to the diesel train. After traveling for nine hours the cattle train finally caught up. What is the diesel train's average speed?
Answer provided by our tutors
let v = the diesel train's average speed
the time of the travel of the cattle train is: 9 hour
the time of the travel of the diesel train is: 9 + 1 = 10 hours
since distance= average speed*time and the trains has traveled the same distance we have:
10v = 60*9
by solving we find
v = 54 km/h
