Problema Solution
We want to select a committee of five members from a group of four women and six men. The order of selection is irrelevant. How many committees can we make consisting of two women and three men?
Answer provided by our tutors
since the order of selection is irrelevant means we are dealing with combinations.
there are 6 ways to select 2 women from group of 4:
C(4, 2) = 4!/(2!(4 - 2)!) = 4!/(2!2!) = 6
there are 20 ways to select 3 men from group of 6:
C(6, 3) = 6!/(3!(6 - 3)!) = 6!/(3!3!) = 20
the total number of committees that can be made is:
C(4, 2) * C(6,3) = 6*20 = 120 ways.
