Problema Solution

A person can give 3 trial exams for the clearing test. In 1st attempt probability of passing is 40 , Those who have

failed have 60 probability of passing the exam in 2nd attempt. Those who have failed in 2nd attempt have

20 probability of passing the exam

Find probability

1. of passing either in 1st or 2nd attempt

2. of passing in 2nd

attempt

3. of passing in 3rd attempt

Answer provided by our tutors

you need to draw a tree diagram (at the moment we don't have the option to draw) and use to find the solutions:

1. P (passing either in 1st or 2nd attempt) = 0.40 + 0.60*0.60 = 0.40 + 0.36 = 0.76 or 76%

2. P (passing in 2nd attempt) = 0.60*0.60 = 0.36 or 36%

3. P (passing in 3rd attempt) = 0.60*0.40*0.20 = 0.048 or 4.8%
