If a flat screen tv is 36 inces wide and 48 inches long, and another is 52 inches long and 48 feet tall, are the two figures similar?

Two figures are similar if the have the same shape and the ratios of the lengths of their corresponding sides are equal.
In our case we need to check if:
48 : 52 = 36 : 48 cross-multiply
48*48 = 52*36
2304 = 1872 this is false thus follows the two figures are not similar.
