Problema Solution

Tata Jose is planning to fence his rectangular backyard for his ducks and geese.He has 26 m of chicken wire to buikd the perimeter.What should the dimensions of he fence be if the length is to be 3 m longer than he width?

Answer provided by our tutors

let

l = the length

w = the width

P = 26 m the perimeter

P = 2(l + w)

2(l + w) = 26 divide both sides by 2

l + w = 13

the length is to be 3 m longer than he width:

l = 3 + w

by solving the system of equations:

l + w = 13

l = 3 + w

we find:

l = 8 m

w = 5 m
