Problema Solution
An egg salesman was asked how many eggs he had sold in one day. He said that his first second and third customers all said that they'll take half his eggs and one more. How many eggs had he sold in all?
Answer provided by our tutors
let x = the total number of eggs sold
first customer bought: x/2 + 1
what is left is: x/2 - 1
second customer bought: (1/2)(x/2 - 1) + 1
what is left is: (1/2)(x/2 - 1) - 1
third customer bought: (1/2)((1/2)(x/2 - 1) - 1) + 1
all together they bought x eggs:
(x/2 + 1) + ((1/2)(x/2 - 1) + 1) + ((1/2)((1/2)(x/2 - 1) - 1) + 1) = x
by solving we find:
x = 14 eggs
