Problema Solution
A quart is half of a half gallon. A pint is half of a quart. A cup is half of a pint. If milk from a full gallon container is used to fill empty half-gallon,quart,pint and cup containers, how much milk will be left in the gallon container?
Answer provided by our tutors
1 qt = (1/2) (1/2) gal = (1/4) gal
1 pt = (1/2) qt = (1/2)(1/4) gal = (1/8) gal
1 cup = (1/2) pt = (1/2)(1/8) gal = (1/16) gal
the total gallons in half-gallon,quart,pint and cup is:
(1/2) + (1/4) + (1/8) + (1/16) = 15/16 gal
click here to see the step by step simplification:
1 - (15/16) = (16/16) - (15/16) = 1/16 gal = 1 cup
there will be 1/16 gal or 1 cup of milk left in the gallon container.
