It takes 4 hurs for a large pump to drain a pool and together with a small puymp it akes 3 hours to drain the pool. how long would it take the small pump to drain the pool by itself?

Time taken by large pump = 4
amount emptied in 1 hour = 1/4
Amount emptied by large in 3 hours = 3/4
Amount emptied by the small pump = 1 - 3/4
=> amount emptied by small pump in 3 hours = 1/4
=> amount emptied by small in 1 hour = 1/4*1/3 = 1/12
total time required = 1/(1/12)=12 hours
