Problema Solution

A farm raises a total of 220 chickens and pigs. The number of legs of the stock in he farm totals 520. How many chickens and pigs are at the farm?

Answer provided by our tutors

let

c = the number of chickens at the farm

p = the number of pigs on at the farm

A farm raises a total of 220 chickens and pigs:

c + p = 200

The number of legs of the stock in he farm totals 520 and considering that each chicken has 2 legs and each pig has 4 legs we have:

2c + 4p = 520

by solving the system of equations:

c + p = 200

2c + 4p = 520

we find:

c = 140 chickens

p = 60 pigs
