Answer provided by our tutors
let 'x' represent the number sacks that Mr Khan gave to Mr. Chen
Mr Khan had 2740 sacks of rice at first.
Mr Chen had 3560 sacks of rice at first
After Mr Khan gave x sacks to Mr. Chen the had:
2740 - x = the number of sacks Mr. Khan had in the end
3560 + x = the number of sacks Mr. Chen had in the end
In the end Mr Chen had 4 times as many sacks as Mr Khan
3560 + x = 4(2740 - x)
by solving we find:
x = 1,480 sacks
