Problema Solution
Brent's school is selling tickets to a spring musical. On the first day of ticket sales the school sold
3 senior citizen tickets and 9 child tickets for a total of P 3000. The school took in P 2680 on the second
day by selling 8 senior citizen tickets and 5 child tickets. What is the price each of one senior citizen ticket
and one child ticket?
Answer provided by our tutors
let
c = the price of one child ticket
s = the price of one child ticket
On the first day of ticket sales the school sold 3 senior citizen tickets and 9 child tickets for a total of P 3000:
3s + 9c = 3000 divide both sides by 3
s + 3c = 1000
The school took in P 2680 on the second day by selling 8 senior citizen tickets and 5 child tickets:
8s + 5c = 2680
by solving the system of equations:
s + 3c = 1000
8s + 5c = 2680
we find:
s = $160
c = $280

the price of one senior citizen ticket is $160.
the price of one child ticket is $280.
