Problema Solution
A farmer went to your bank to ask for a loan. The bank agreed on offering $100 as long as the farmer would be able to buy exactly 100 animals with those $100.
The only rule of the agreement was that the farmer would buy at least one of each of the following animals: ox, pigs and sheeps. Each ox costs $10. Each pigs costs $3, and the sheeps costs, each, $0.50. How many animals of each kind did the farmer buy?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
x = the number of ox, x>0
y = the number of pigs, y>0
z = the number of sheep, z>0
x + y + z = 100
10x + 3y + 0.50z = 100

........
x = (1/7)(2.5z - 200)
x = (1/70)(25z - 2000)
x = (25/70)(z - 80)
x = (5/14)(z - 80)
y = (1/14)(1800 - 19z)
For z = 94 we have:
x =(5/14)(95 - 80) = 5 oxes
y = (1/14)(1800 - 19*94) = 1 pig
The farmer needs to buy: 5 oxes, 1 pig and 94 sheep.
