Problema Solution

A hospital has 35% saline solution on hand. How much water and how much of this solution should be used to prepare 140ml of a 20% SALINE SOLUTION

Answer provided by our tutors

Let x ml of water be used.

So, (140 - x) ml of the 35% saline solution is used.

Now, 35% * (140 - x) = 20% * 140

0.35 * (140 - x) = 28

49 - 0.35x = 28

0.35x = 49 - 28

0.35x = 21

x = 21/0.35

x = 60

So, 60 ml of water and 80 ml of saline solution should be used.
