Problema Solution

An eagle can fly at a speed of 50mph and a starling can fly at 78mph. How far will the starling fly in the time it takes an eagle to fly 125 miles?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

v1 = 50 mph the speed of the eagle

v2 = 78 mph the speed of the starling

d = 125 mi the distance that the eagle flew

t = the time of the eagle

Since speed = distance/time follows time = distance/speed thus

t = d/v1

t = 125/50

t = 2.5 hr

Next we use the formula distance = speed*time and we find the distance of the starling s:

s = v2*t

s = 28*2.5

s = 70 mi

The starling will fly 70 miles.
