a swimming pool can be filled by pipe A in 3hours and by pipe B in 6hours , each pump working on its own . At 9am pump A is started. At what time will the swimming pool be filled if pump B is started at 10am ?

The rate of pipe A is: 1/3 pool per hour
The rate of pipe B is: 1/6 pool per hour
Let
x = the hours that pump B will pump, x>0
x + 1 = the hours that pump A will pump
(x + 1)(1/3) + x*(1/6) = 1

........
x = 4/3 hr
x = 1 hr 60/3 min
x = 1 hr 20 min
1 hr and 20 min after 10 am is 11:20 am the swimming pool will be filled.
